    Description

Rare Florida Jewelry Sterling Silver Olive Commons Cameona Pin 7/8"
    Used
Rare Vintage Olive Commons hand painted ceramic cameo in a sterling silver mount with a pin back.
This pin is a beautiful original painting by the famous artist Olive Commons known for her micro detailed works of art showing fabulous scenes of the Florida landscape and coast line.
Signed with Olive's signature mark (edge of water, right side).
    Measures: 7/8" x 5/8"
Olive Wesler Commons moved to central Florida in 1908.  Here she one day painted a scene on a small porcelain medallion, intended to be a gift for a northern friend.  The gift was received with such pleasure that she decided to make several more to be mounted as jewelry and give them as Christmas gifts.
Then to her surprise tourists and visitors, upon seeing her lovely work, insisted on buying them as souvenirs. The demand grew and grew and she sold at least 2,000 pieces a year.  No two cameonas were exactly alike, and each scene was painted and fired twice.
Commons was awarded a medal at the 1939 New York World's Fair, and her art is a highly sought after, and beautiful, Florida Collectible!
