Description
Once in a blue moon …In 1988, Post-Modern visual artists Lisa and Scott Cylinder decided to pool their design and technical expertise to establish a studio focused solely on crafting a limited line of jewelry multiples that was at once sophisticated, intelligent, and totally fun.
The company was dubbed
Chickenscratch
and, employing a wide range of mixed materials, it boldly transformed traditional motifs into wonderfully re-imagined wearable art. Today, the husband and wife team has garnered tremendous critical acclaim. Their studio pieces have been featured in magazines, books, and special museum collections, and have won awards at major craft shows nationwide.
I am now pleased to offer this rarely seen, retired entry in the Chickenscratch collection. Most likely dating to the early or mid-1990's, the pin charmingly depicts two lovebirds, perched on a leafy branch, set against the backdrop of a large blue moon. The stylized birds are composed of cast sterling silver with hand-painted, orange enamel beaks, and silver-soldered to the tree branch. The branch itself is etched bronze, boasting wood-grain detail and adorned with four leaves finished in olive gold leaf. And finally, the looming moon has been cut from copper metal sheeting and washed in deep blue, semi-transparent enamel paint. With the bird and branch element securely bolted by mini hardware to the back of the metal moon and the piece fitted with the Chickenscratch signature clasp, this is a fabulous adornment—delightful to wear and collect.
