    Description

THIS IS AN EXTREMELY RARE AND QUITE BEAUTIFUL ITEM OF WHICH I LEARNED QUITE A BIT OF HISTORY AFTER I PURCHASED THIS.... THIS IS CONSIDERED THE "CADILLAC" OF MUSICAL SAWS.
THERE WAS A BOW THAT THE OWNER HAD (THIS BELONGED TO HIS FATHER THAT PASSED) THAT HE THOUGHT WENT TO A VIOLIN. AFTER I DID MY RESEARCH I FOUND THEY ALSO USED A BOW TO PLAY ON THESE SAWS.
WHEN THE WESTPHAL FAMILY CREATED THIS SAW, IT WAS MADE VERY DECORATIVE WITH THE COPPER PLATED BADE, THE WOODEN HANDLE WITH INLAID GEMSTONES AS WELL AS INTRICATE  INLAY DESIGNS IN THE WOOD.  WHEN THE PLAYERS WOULD PLUCK THE END OF THE BLADE IT WOULD MAKE A BELL SOUND.
TODAY THESE SAWS ARE CONSIDERED ONE OF THE GREATEST NOVELTIES OF MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS.
IF YOU ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO FIND AN ORIGINAL MOSSEHL & WESTPHAL  WITH THE ORIGINAL BOW AND BOX GRAB IT,, I DID NOW I AM PASSING IT ON.
THE SAW ITSELF HAS NO WOODWORKING BLADE SHARPNESS TO IT. STRICTLY MADE FOR MUSIC. THE BLADE ITSELF MEASURES 26" LONG  THE END HAS A 3 5/8 " COATED SECTION THAT IS PLUCKED,, THE REST I ASSUME YOU USE THE BOW?
**** PLEASE NOTE THAT REPLICAS OF THESE ARE MADE TODAY AND SOLD AS NOVELTY ITEMS, THEY ARE NOT THE SAME AND NOT TO BE COMPARED TO OR MATCH THE ORIGINAL SAWS THAT WERE MADE STARTING IN 1921*****
